This traditional old Portuguese farmhouse has an abundance of charm with many original features and beautiful details. It sits on a large plot, formerly a vineyard, and offers total peace and seclusion whilst remaining close to all amenities, local restaurants and the beaches of the Algarve. The house is presently divided into two totally self contained units each with its own private access. The main unit is entered via a lovely lobby separated from a dining room / reception room by arches with wrought ironwork. In one corner of the dining room is a traditional Portuguese bread oven, which can be used as an open fire. Through another arch to the left is the spacious, high ceilinged sitting room with a very efficient wood burning stove and an open fireplace. There is also access from this room to a crazy paved marble patio outside. Turning right from the dining room we reach the kitchen which has been fully restored in a traditional style, with vaulted, tiled ceiling and tiled floor. French windows lead to another outside sitting area. Off the kitchen is another useful food preparation area with larder. This part of the house was the carob store when the property was a working farm. Returning to the living room a wooden staircase leads to a mezzanine level giving access to three bedrooms and a large bathroom. From the living room there is another short flight of stairs to a small, well lit room, currently used as an office. Off this room is another large bathroom, formerly the wine press for the vineyard. The second part of the house has its own gate and entrance via a private patio , although it can also be reached via a door in the office. The ground floor is composed of two rooms (one currently a bedroom), a bathroom and open plan kitchen. A flight of stone steps leads to two bedrooms upstairs with views over the surrounding countryside. Outside the property is surrounded by various terraces, some small and secluded, others open to the sun but all equally ideal for taking advantage of the Algarve climate. Some of these are walled and reached by pretty archways. There is also a large BBQ area with traditional wood oven, ideal for al fresco dining. The whole of this area is surrounded by a perimeter wall with gates leading to the more agricultural part of the plot, formerly the vineyard and currently planted with various fruit trees. The total land area is 22,000 m2. Water comes from the property's own 130 metre deep borehole. There is also a system for collecting rainwater and grey water is recycled for irrigation. This is an intriguing property. With one metre thick walls and a wealth of original features it has a truly authentic atmosphere. It would certainly make a large comfortable family home, but (with permission) it could equally be developed into a business to serve the local tourist industry.
